I was very fond of my blog name “In Stitches” and stubbornly hung on to it despite confusion caused by not being the only blog with that name located on blogger…but with change comes more change. Moving to WordPress offered me an option to have my own “domain” and the opportunity to keep the site-name uniquely mine. I am only a novice blogger, but the cache of being unique is what finally convinced me that giving up “In Stitches” might not be so bad. We said goodby to blogger last week. Now we bid farewell to the site-name. Today I invite you to celebrate the move with me and welcome you to The Purple Sweater! http://www.thepurplesweater.com
I fully expect the actual saga of the purple sweater to eventually be left far behind as I move on to exciting new projects that won’t be purple—I’ve pretty much exhausted my fondness for working with purple yarn, at least for the next several projects! But it is how this blog actually came into being and I tend to hang on to things I am fond of….do you sense a pattern here? (yup, pun intended–I’m inordinately fond of puns, too) And that’s why, henceforth-which-means-from-now-on (story behind that particular phrase and why I’ve hung on to it for over 40 years to come at a later date—if you remind me!), you can find me here at The Purple Sweater.
I have a way to go working on the current purple sweater…and have yet to assemble the original purple sweater…so purple is a long way from being left behind. That gives me enough time to make my nest in this new home and lots of time to plan what color I want to work with next. I have several to choose from…I have a LOT of orange-sherbet-colored cotton yarn that I got when my daughter’s color-of-the-month was orange. I also have a LOT of yarn in shades of green from when her favorite color was green. And, perhaps just because it would mean a peaceful change from working with such bright color, I have a sweater planned for her in what is her present favorite color—gray! This yarn is a nice wool-blend in a tweedy sort of darker gray that isn’t quite as dark as charcoal gray. If I don’t get busy on the gray sweater, she’ll have changed her favorite colors again and I’ll still be at least a couple of colors behind. Of course, there is always the possibility that she could decide to go back to loving purple! (I should be so lucky!)
One of the reasons I enjoy working with textiles is because of my love of color. I am happiest when I am surrounded by colorful thing…books, yarns, fabrics, pens! I’ve made a point to describe the colors of yarns today because I realize how much I’d like for you to be able to “see” what I write about. Ideally, I would be such an excellent writer that you could envision the colors as you read my words. Realistically, you’ll be a lot happier with a picture that would make the proverbial thousand words unnecessary!
I really enjoy all the wonderful photography I see in the many blogs I follow myself. Admittedly, the photos are taken by professionals, but seeing the variety of ways a new digital camera could add life to my blogs–as well as life to my life–has renewed an old passion for photography and inspired the acquisition of a new digital camera that is sufficiently point-and-shoot to allow me to learn to use it. If enthusiasm were a factor I’d be sharing wonderful photos with you in no time! I assure you it’s going to take more than just enthusiasm, so I ask in advance for you to once more bear with me as I learn. More to come . . .
