Usual meanderings on my keyboard:
I hate insomnia!
But I do get a lot accomplished while I am waiting to get sleepy. I’ve completed all the pieces of the purple sweater! I still have to block them and put it all together, but I am so close to finishing it….and I’m so proud of myself. I’ll keep you posted along the way and try to get a good picture so I can include it in a post.
So-ooo, last night I started work on a scarf that uses lace-weight yarn…..it’s like knitting with a cobweb! This is not a project that will be completed fast like the sweater was. But it’s so soft and it’s going to be beautiful. The yarn is hand-dyed and the colors look like a sunset—all pinks and yellows and oranges. The pattern is a flame stitch and is perfect for this yarn. It’s so complicated that I can only work on it for a couple of hours at a time.
Then, after I put the scarf aside, I dug out a sweater I started in 2002 I think. Can you imagine? I’ve had it put away for 10 years. Does that make me feel old? You betcha! The yarn is a bright royal blue with multi-colored slubs. For ease of identification in future posts I’ll refer to it as the blue sweater so I don’t confuse you. I have the back nearly completed, but it’s a long haul because it’s in bulky weight yarn and it weighs a lot so it’s hard to work with at this length. I’ve set a new goal—I am going to finish this sweater and have it ready to wear next winter. I’ll keep you posted and you can monitor my progress (and keep me on track!)
I now have three projects to work on…each one in a different weight of yarn and also different in levels of difficulty: the purple sweater, the sunset scarf and the blue sweater. Because of school, I have only the nights to work on them, but when I can’t sleep it’s a perfect solution to my problem. Then, if I do get sleepy, I can just set it aside for another day.
Waxing Philosophical: Wouldn’t it be nice if we could just set aside all the things that seem daunting to us? It’s very tempting to just drift and not face up to unpleasantness. Being able to set problems aside until we can deal with them is a good coping strategy. Of course, some issues need to be faced and resolved quickly….but you’ll know when it is something that can wait. Take your time and remember to breathe.
FYI: Did you know that the different spellings of the word ‘blond’ and ‘blonde’ actually do not mean the same thing? Apparently it’s a gender thing…the word ‘blond’ refers to men and the word ‘blonde’ is the feminine word. Who knew?
Have a great day!
